What is CBN (Cannabinol)?

There is a multitude of cannabinoids present in marijuana, and Cannabinol (CBN) is just one of them. In this guide, we explain:

  • What is CBN?
  • How does CBN work and what does CBN do?
  • What is the difference between CBD and CBN?
  • Where can CBN be found?

What is Cannabinol?

What is CBN?

Most people have heard of THC and CBD, even if they're not cannabis consumers. But there are other cannabinoids in marijuana plants, and one of them is CBN. This cannabinoid can have psychoactive properties and is produced when THC is exposed to heat or UV light and then oxygen. It can also result from the natural aging process of THC.

What does CBN do and how does it work?

CBN is still being studied, but we know a few things. Like most cannabinoids, it interacts with our CB1 and CB2 receptors in our body. Exactly how CBN affects the body and more importantly, how it might influence our body, is unclear.

While CBD may offer a “lifting” experience, it does not have the same physical effect as THC. CBN has the potential to be mildly psychoactive. This is because CBN is a byproduct of THC. So if there is some THC present that has not completely converted, it may still have psychoactive properties.

Where can CBN be found?

CBN is available in certain forms. Here are some options:

  • CBN oil and tinctures: There are CBN oils and tinctures available, usually mixed with CBD.
  • CBN Gummies: Sweet-tasting candies, typically combine CBN and CBD.
  • CBN capsules: CBN capsules can not only contain CBN but also offer a variety of other cannabinoids, making them a full-spectrum product that embraces the idea of the entourage effect.
  • CBN strains: Auto Super OG Kush, Arjans Strawberry Haze, Super Silver Haze (Green House Seed)
  • CBN Jelly Flowers and Hash: Critical Mass 22% CBD Jelly, Bio Hanf CBD Blüten 6 % CBD - OG KUSH 2 g, Bio Hanf CBD Blüten 6 % CBD - Lemon Haze 2 g

Unfortunately, most of the above CBN-containing products are not yet available in the European market.
