While regular and feminized varieties are photoperiodic, i.e. they have to react to certain light cycles in order to flower, autoflower seeds work on a completely different principle. Ruderalis genetics have adapted to extremely short summers and have developed a special characteristic: they do not flower depending on the length of the day, but on the age of the plant.
