As a hobby breeder, I am often on the lookout for interesting genetics. So of course I had to include Spliff Seeds. Now a brief introduction to the variety itself, followed by the breeding report. The variety is simply wonderful. What can I say? Unfortunately, I can't report on the effect, as I hardly ever consume it myself. I'm more the type of person who likes fishing but doesn't eat fish. So I've been producing my own varieties for years and, with a few exceptions, am more or less only dependent on feedback from others. And this feedback has been more than good. Consumers from all different groups (younger, older, old school lovers, new hype lovers etc.) - all boundlessly enthusiastic. I have to say myself, even though I haven't smoked it myself: the smell of the plant is just wonderful. Very sweet, but not annoying, very fruity and fresh with subtle undertones of earth and pine. I'm not a fan of earthy tones myself, but here it's combined with such a huge minty/fruity/fresh background that it's hard to describe, but a very sophisticated smell that you can't help but love. So the strain itself I can highly recommend to anyone who likes fresh, fruity tones with a rather complex and therefore never boring smell. As for the effect, I've been told: from mild euphoria at the beginning, very little trippie with a clear head to more or less relaxation - depending on the amount. Most have not reported a stoned feeling, but a balanced, relaxed effect without overdriving. Still very sedative in higher doses. After all, apparently very controllable simply by the amount consumed, with a clear head at all times. Breeder report AK47 from Serious Seeds as the original parent has become a true legend over time. Nevertheless, I didn't want to use AK47 directly because, firstly, in my opinion Serious Seeds charges far too much money for it and, at the same time, it's a rather old-school strain in my opinion. That doesn't mean it's bad, of course, but time goes on and my intentions are more to be up to date, to challenge the current trends a little and at the same time to create a stable new variety. It was also important to me to work with regular seeds in order to integrate the rich gene pool into the breeding process from the outset. Now, logically, AK from Spliff Seeds was added. As an already grafted AK47 with an elite NL, the decision was clear. From the beginning I had rather pessimistic expectations. Even though I love NL as a variety, I was afraid that AK would still be too old school. Far from it! Of the five AK reg. seeds, all germinated. All had a very nice structure right from the start. Germination took place about 18 hours in water (pH 6), then about 12 hours on the cloth. After that, all the newly formed roots were over 1 cm long and ready to go into the jiffies. After about two days in the jiffy, they were completely rooted and placed in plastic pots on Tray2Grow. I watered them lightly from above for a few more days, as my pots are about 23 cm high. The roots formed at lightning speed, and after about a week the water intake from below only stabilized automatically as desired. Of the five plants, three turned out to be females and two males. Phenotypes very similar. All the same color, all phenos with dark green leaves. Two females were identical in size and growth structure, one female slightly more stretched (about 10 %). In other words, the females were almost identical, but the males were much more different, with a difference in size of around 30 %. The four plants generally had very stable and uniform characteristics (smell, growth, color). One male was the same in terms of color, but its growth, size and speed were out of this world. This male was just like a flash - it started flowering about ten days earlier than the rest. While the other male was only just starting to form pollen sacs, the first one was already scattering hugely around itself and had also outgrown my tent. It would have been a great candidate in terms of speed, but unfortunately it was also the pheno that was the only one that stretched enormously. So I decided to dispose of it and wait for the other more stable one. Of the three females, two remained as mother parts until the end for further seed production. One female stretched a little more and was thus left to flower unpollinated. The remaining male did well until the end and produced immense amounts of pollen. After about two weeks of flowering, all the plants were completely pollinated - automatically by natural means only in the tent together, no brushes or other actions. With such quantities of pollen and the goal of many seeds, this was unnecessary. The male also donated enough pollen for further use, and so I conserved AK pollen for years to come. The two females have shed over 100 g of seeds. Unfortunately, a vacation crept in during the late phase when the automation didn't work particularly well, so the plants ended up being very stressed. This became apparent during the harvest and I had to dispose of a lot of them (unripe, overripe, dried out, etc.). In the end, I still ended up with over 80 g of sorted, selected seeds, which equates to many thousands of seeds - far too much for a breeder project and certainly not necessary, but my aim was to achieve the best possible selection in the future and to safeguard the variety itself. In the germination test, I was always between 96-98% with a balanced male/female distribution in the first batches. Very nicely structured seeds, hard wax shell, decent size and beautiful tiger patterns. Insta seeds with perfect germination and pronounced stability. Whether for further crossing or direct breeding - this variety has unexpectedly become one of my true favorites due to its stability and divine smell alone. A new strain has thus been created as the first cross: SAK (Super Boof (Barney's Farm) × AK (Spliff Seeds)). Super Boof is an excellent, ultra-potent and equally divine smelling, fast flowering photo strain. SAK's seeds are a little lighter in colour, with a nice structure, hard skin and lots of wax. I'm currently only doing the first germination tests, so unfortunately I can't report on the new variety yet, but I'm sure that will come. As both parents produce very strong F1 hybrids purely in terms of genotype, this was to be expected. The germination capacity of the selected seeds was currently 97 %, which exceeds my minimum expectation of 95 %. The plants are currently still in the vegi phase, so I can't really describe the new variety yet, but so far very strong, fast and homogeneous growth. The F1 vigor seems to be asserting itself and the plants look like clones so far. I'm looking forward to the grafting and selection.
