How does the Cannabis Seedfinder work?
The perfect variety in 3 steps

Our Seedfinder was developed to make your selection as easy as possible. Instead of clicking through thousands of product pages, you simply answer a few basic questions about your grow setup and preferences. The intelligent algorithm then automatically filters out the strains that suit you best. Here's how it works in detail:

1
Step 1: Select category

Select category

GIB the rough direction. Are you looking for easy-care autoflowering seeds that flower automatically? Or high-yielding feminized seeds that give you full control over the growth phase? Perhaps you are also interested in medicinal strains with a high CBD content? Choose the category that comes closest to your goals.

2
Step 2: Use filters

Use filter

Refine your search with over 15 smart criteria. Filter by THC content for maximum potency, by taste (from fruity-sweet to earthy-spicy), by effect (relaxing or stimulating), by yield, flowering time or plant size. The more filters you use, the more precise the result will be.

3
Step 3: Find the variety

Find variety

Get a customized selection of strains that exactly match your wishes and your setup. Each strain is presented with detailed information on genetics, yield, flowering time, effect and taste. Compare the options and make an informed decision - or use our expert recommendations.

For beginners or pros? Choose your experience level

Your level of experience is crucial to the success of your grow. As a beginner (Beginners), we recommend robust, forgiving strains that won’t hold minor mistakes in watering, fertilizing, or lighting against you. Strains like Northern LightsAuto, or Royal Dwarf are known for delivering good results even under suboptimal conditions. Advanced growers offers rare genetics and high-maintenance strains for maximum yield and potency. While these strains require more attention and expertise, they reward you with exceptional quality and quantity.

Indoor, outdoor or greenhouse? The right growing location

Every growing environment has its own requirements and advantages. Indoor varieties are often more compact and have a shorter flowering time, making them ideal for grow boxes and grow tents. They are optimized for artificial lighting and deliver consistent results year-round. Outdoor varieties , on the other hand, must be more resilient to weather, pests, and mold. They benefit from natural sunlight and can grow into true giants. Greenhouse cultivation combines the best of both worlds: protection from extreme weather while still making use of sunlight.

Autoflowering vs. feminized seeds: What's the difference?

When buying seeds, the decision between autoflowering and feminized strains is one of the most important points. Autoflowering seeds - often simply called "autos" - start flowering all by themselves after a certain period of time. The light cycle plays no role in this. This is precisely why they are considered to be particularly uncomplicated and are very popular with beginners. It usually only takes around eight to twelve weeks from germination to harvest. The plants also tend to remain compact, which makes them interesting for quick runs or more discreet grows.

Feminized seeds work slightly differently. They are photoperiodic, which means that flowering only starts when the light cycle is adjusted - usually from 18 hours of light to 12 hours of light and 12 hours of darkness. This gives you more control over the growth phase. You can let the plants grow longer and only send them into flowering when they have reached the desired size. This often leads to larger plants and correspondingly higher yields.

Indica, sativa or hybrid? Find your desired effect

The effects you can expect from your harvest depend heavily on the strain’s genetics. Indica varieties originate from the mountainous regions of Central Asia. They are typically associated with a calming, physical effect and are therefore considered a good choice for the evening or for relaxing after a long day. Sativa varieties, on the other hand, come from warmer, equatorial regions. Their effects are often described as invigorating and clear-headed—many people appreciate them when they want to be creative or stay active during the day.

Hybrids combine characteristics of both lines. Depending on the breed, the focus can be more on indica or sativa. Thanks to the many modern crosses, there is now a large selection of varieties, so that you can choose an effect that suits your own preferences in a relatively targeted manner.

Taste & aroma: From fruity to earthy

The terpene profile of a variety determines how it smells and tastes and is therefore an important part of the overall experience. Terpenes are natural aromatic substances in the plant that not only determine the fragrance, but can also influence the effect. Depending on the variety, the aromas range from sweet berries and tropical fruits to fresh citrus notes and mint to spicy, pine-like or earthy nuances. The best-known terpenes include myrcene (earthy, relaxing), limonene (citrusy, mood-enhancing), pinene (piney, focusing) and caryophyllene (peppery, anti-inflammatory).

More filters: THC/CBD content, yield, flowering time & more

You can use the detailed filters to narrow down the selection. An important factor is the THC content, which indicates how strong the psychoactive effect of a strain is. Strains with around 10-15 % THC tend to be considered mild and are often chosen by beginners, while experienced users often opt for stronger varieties with 25 % THC or more.

The CBD content can also be a decisive factor in the selection, especially for users who are interested in possible therapeutic properties and prefer a lower psychoactive effect.

Another important point is the yield. If you want to get the most out of your harvest, you can filter for particularly high-yielding varieties - some of which achieve more than 600 g per plant in outdoor cultivation.

Another important point is the flowering time. Varieties with a short flowering phase of around seven to eight weeks enable a faster harvest. Varieties with a longer flowering period of ten to twelve weeks require a little more patience, but often develop more complex aromas and a higher potency.

You can also filter by other characteristics, such as plant size, mold resistance or cold tolerance. This makes it much easier to find a variety that suits your growing location and personal preferences.

Frequently asked questions

Which cannabis strain is best for beginners?

For beginners, we recommend Autoflowering seeds . They are extremely hardy, forgiving of typical beginner mistakes like over- or under-watering, and do not require complicated light cycle changes. Particularly proven beginner strains include Northern Lights Auto (relaxing, compact, high success rate), Royal Dwarf (very small, discreet, easy) and Easy Bud (the name says it all). These strains deliver a high-quality harvest of 30–100 g per plant even on your first grow and have a total cycle time of just 8–10 weeks from seed to harvest. Use our beginner filter in the Seedfinder to discover more suitable strains.

How do I find varieties with the highest yield?

Use our “Yield” filter and set it to “Very High” or “XXL.” Strains like , Critical , , Big Bud , , Super Skunk , and , Green Gelato are legendary for their massive harvests. In outdoor cultivation, these strains can yield over 600 g per plant; indoors, 500–600 g/m² is realistic. Note, however, that high-yielding strains often require more space, more intense lighting, more nutrients, and longer flowering times (9–11 weeks) to reach their full potential. If you’re a beginner but still want high yields, check out Critical Auto or Big Bud Auto —these combine high yields with the simplicity of autoflowering strains.

What is the difference between Indica and Sativa?

Simply put: Indica strains tend to have a relaxing, calming, and physical effect (“stoned” or “couch-lock”). They’re ideal for the evening, for unwinding after a long day, for pain relief, or to aid sleep. Indica plants are generally more compact, bushy, and have a shorter flowering time (7–9 weeks). Sativa strains , on the other hand, have stimulating, creative, energizing, and cerebral effects (“high”). They are perfect for daytime use, social activities, creative projects, or physical activities. Sativa plants grow taller and slimmer and have a longer flowering time (10–14 weeks). Hybrid strains combine characteristics of both types and provide the perfect balance for your needs.

How long does it take from seed to harvest?

This depends heavily on the strain and type. Fast- Autoflowering strains can be ready for harvest as early as 8–10 weeks after germination—perfect for impatient growers or multiple harvests per year. Photoperiod Indica strains have a growth phase of 4–6 weeks plus a flowering time of approx. 7–9 weeks, for a total of 11–15 weeks. Photoperiod Sativa strains take the longest: 4–6 weeks of growth plus 10–14 weeks of flowering, for a total of 14–20 weeks. In return, they often reward you with more complex flavors and cerebral highs. If you’re in a hurry, filter by “Short Flowering Time” or choose autoflowering strains.

Can I also use Seedfinder for medicinal varieties?

Absolutely! Our Seedfinder has a dedicated category for medicinal seeds with over 970 strains. You can filter by specific cannabinoid ratios, e.g., high CBD content (>10%) with low THC for non-psychoactive medical applications, or balanced CBD:THC ratios (1:1) for a mild, therapeutic effect. Popular medical strains include CBD Fix Auto (7% CBD, 7% THC), Candida (CD-1) (up to 20% CBD, under 1% THC), and Harlequin (5:2 CBD:THC ratio).

Are the seeds in Seedfinder all feminized?

No, our Seedfinder includes various seed types. The majority (over 3,500 strains) are feminized seeds , which produce 99.9% female plants—this is the most popular option for most growers. However, we also have over 1,600 autoflowering seeds (which are also feminized) and over 550 regular seeds . Regular seeds produce about 50% male and 50% female plants and are of interest to breeders who want to create their own crosses, or to growers looking for mother plants for cuttings.

What is the difference between autoflowering and feminized seeds?

Autoflowering seeds bloom automatically after a certain period of time, regardless of the light cycle. This makes them extremely easy to handle and ideal for beginners. They have a short lifespan of just 8–12 weeks from seed to harvest and remain compact. Feminized seeds are photoperiodic, meaning they require a change in the light cycle (from 18/6 to 12/12 hours) to flower. This gives you more control over the growth phase—you can let the plants grow as long as you want to achieve larger plants and higher yields. Experienced growers often prefer feminized seeds because of their higher potency and the ability to keep mother plants.

How many varieties can I search with the Seedfinder?

Our Seedfinder searches through over 7,500 different cannabis strains from more than 200 renowned breeders worldwide. This is one of the largest searchable seed databases in Europe. From classic strains like White Widow and Northern Lights to the latest cultivars like Gelato or Wedding Cake—you’re guaranteed to find the perfect genetics for your project here.
